Away Days: Allies in the Art Sector
Join us for 3 days of seminars, workshops, and activities exploring the allyship between deaf and hearing artists and creatives. Collaborate, empower, and be an ally to each other in this enriching experience.
The event aims to bring deaf and hearing artists together to improve collaborative work within theatres, visual arts, combined arts and amongst art industry decision-makers. Due to the cultural and language differences between deaf and hearing artists, significant barriers prevent many deaf artists from working in creative industries. You will find out about the lack of access that makes the deaf community under-represented and prevents mainstream arts organisations from experiencing the skills, perspectives, and contributions that deaf artists have to offer. Our event aims to use presentations, masterclasses and arts workshops led by well-known deaf and hearing artists and facilitators within the industry to identify the causes of this and share how industry allies could help to reduce these barriers.
